Interfaith Community Shelter provides overnight shelter & meals for anyone in need during the winter months and for women and children during the summer. Year round, nearly twenty different types of services are provided on site by ICS and collaborators including: Veterans Administration, Healthcare for the Homeless, Life Link, Santa Fe Community Services, St. Elizabeth Shelter and Supportive Housing Programs. Also the Food Depot, Goodwill Industries, Southwest CARE Center, Youth Shelters,  Street Homeless Animal Project, and Feed the Hungry.

UPDATE: It is with a heavy heart that we share some important news regarding our overnight shelter and day services programs. The City of Santa Fe recently informed the Interfaith Community Shelter that our property lease will not be renewed; thus, we will cease overnight shelter and day services at 2801 Cerrillos Road on July 31, 2025. Our board, management and partners are working diligently to secure a new location and create a better service model for providing safe, hospitable 24-7 shelter and a myriad of wrap-around services.

The Interfaith Community Shelter is the proud fiscal sponsor of Consuelo’s Place, an emergency shelter that is currently located on Santa Fe’s midtown campus. Consuelo’s Place provides non-congregate shelter for vulnerable individuals and families who are transitioning into permanent housing or whose unique circumstances make it difficult to succeed in a congregate setting; and provide life-stabilizing services for those individuals.

We provide wraparound case management to our clients experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and poverty while practicing harm reduction through a trauma informed lens. We average 90 clients in house; ranging from infants to the elderly, those with disabilities, families with children, many experiencing domestic violence, sexual trauma, and human trafficking, along with veterans

The goal of the Volunteer Program is to support the mission of the Interfaith Community Shelter and to offer opportunities for volunteers to have meaningful and purposeful experiences with ICS and its guests. A volunteer’s presence brings fresh energy and enthusiasm to the guests. In addition to supporting services at ICS, volunteers act as liaisons between the Interfaith Community Shelter and the public.

If you like to help make a difference please volunteer or donate and help their mission.

We were given a tour of the shelter and talked about some of the things they ask us to do while volunteering. We met several staff members that work different areas of the shelter, some being there as long as 15 years serving the homeless. One female staff member that worked in the kitchen shared her personal story overcoming homelessness, addiction and how she turned things around due to the shelter. She started to work there and due to her commitment became part of the staff.

There were many people there at shelter in great need of help and to see it with our own eyes was moving. We helped with several things they asked us to help with, such as
cleaning up trash in parking lot to the street curbs, breaking down a pile of boxes and stacking them and repairing and cleaning the kennels for animals. We also helped inside by organizing the storage area and working in the kitchen. We enjoyed serving many meals to the homeless that came in for lunch. During the time in the kitchen, we asked if they needed any food supplies. They responded yes and a list was put together of food supplies they needed. Our ladies from our organization then went shopping to bring back much needed food items.

Overall it was a great experience for all of us in making a difference and serving others in need. Interfaith staff was thankful for our help and we received many compliments. If you would like to help this shelter you can volunteer or send them a donation.

OMSDT Members Arrive to Volunteer 2025

On Friday Oct 26, 2025, members of OMSDT Knights Templar arrived at Interfaith Community Shelter to help by volunteering at the shelter. We arranged a day and time with Gina, who is an administrative assistant at the shelter. Gina is in the above picture top row and the left.

We arrived, received visitor passes and give a tour of the shelter by Gina. While on the tour we made aware of the needs they had and the work they needed us to. After the tour we split up into teams to tackle to work needed to be done inside and outside of the shelter.  The staff was happy to have us there helping them and was very satisfied with what we did at the shelter.

During the time we were there we asked if they needed any food items or supplies. After listening to what they needed we headed to the local Walmart to purchase items for the shelter which was a combination of can foods, cleaning supplies, and some new counter appliances and two pumpkins. Since the shelter has kids staying there with parents that are in need, we figured they may enjoy them. Afterward the kids painted the pumpkins with scary faces on them.

Overall it was a great experience for all of us in making a difference and serving others in need. Interfaith staff was thankful for our help and we received many compliments. If you would like to help this shelter you can volunteer or send them a donation.
