Conclave 2025 Service Event
On Sunday Oct 26, 2025, members of OMSDT Knights Templar arrived at Interfaith Community Shelter Consuelo’s Place to help by volunteering at the shelter. This is a photo gallery of that day.
Conclave Service Event 2025
There are many parts of OMSDT's mission and one is to serve others and make a difference. We arrived at Interfaith Community Shelter, it is located in an old college dorm. It had a very large outdoor area and we could see the work needed outside for the shelter grounds. If you would like to be a part of OMSDT, please click on the join tab above and fill out a membership application.

Our Tour of the Shelter
We were given a tour of the shelter, starting in the main lobby area. We met Gina who oversees the shelter and it was nice to meet her after talking over the phone and we were given volunteer badges to wear. We were shown the family dorm hallways on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building. Also they have a kid's play room and donation rooms.

Let the Work Begin
After getting our badges as volunteers, we then divided into a few groups and tackled inside and outside work. Inside work was sorting, folding, and organizing donations of clothing and sheets. This work was done by GC Fr. John Kelmy, his wife Pam, Sir Andrew Dunar, MC Amanda Moreno and PAGE Heather. Some members helped outside with grounds work around the parking lot and main lawn areas. Outside members mowed, pulled weeds, cut down a small tree and swept walkways. The messy work was done by Prior Bill Ryan, Sir Tony Bucher, Sir Ben, and Sir Joseph DePiero. After getting everyone set to their task, GM Rick Trujillo and GP Derek Nordio headed out to do some shopping for critical supplies for the shelter. The work being done by us helps the shelter that has a limited staff and time to be able to keep up with all the required work. We provided some relief in that workload.

There was so many sheets just piled in the large blue bin that needed to be separated by size and folded and placed into bags. Then they were labeled by GC Fr. John Kelmy his wife Pam. They reduced the sheets in the bin to almost to the bottom of it. It was a vast improvement from what it was and they helped bring some of the bagged sheets to the basement storage area.

Sir Andrew Dunar hung and organized clothing on racks and sorted men's and women's clothing in proper sections in a clothing room. MC Amanda Moreno and PAGE Heather worked in the kids clothing donation room.

A staff member came by and was amazed at the progress being made. Sir Andrew Dunar joined in helping in kids clothing room. After much hard work, the kids donation room was organized and it opened up more floor space.

Outside area over-grown with weeds and tall grass, so we focused on what we could do in the time we were there as the area was very large and not all of it could be done.

Sir Joseph DePiero running the mower, Sir Tony Bucher running the power weed mower, Sir Bill Ryan and Sir Ben doing brush trimming and a small tree removal.

The brush pile grows and it's a long walk for Sir Bill, time for a water break. Everyone in good spirits despite the hard work. Also time to check equipment and get ready to do more.

Final touches being done with Sir Ben, GP Derek Nordio sweeping walkways and PAGE Heather raking walkways and removing larger debris so sweeping was easier.

After working outside many hours, a big difference was noticeable and the change was dramatic.
Food and Supplies Donation
While speaking with Gina, we asked if they needed any food items or other needed items. There was a need, so several members donated money so we could go shopping for those items. GM Rick Trujillo and GP Derek Nordio shopped for the items for the shelter. After returning from shopping GM and GP unloaded the supplies and placed on tables in the main lobby. We gathered for a group picture with the donated items that OMSDT purchased.

Job Well Done
After almost four hours of organizing, sorting clothing and cleaning up the grounds, we were done with our time at the shelter. We received many thanks and compliments and the shelter staff was very happy to have us there. It was truly a blessing to serve and very rewarding to have done so. We are thankful every day for what we have and are reminded that not everyone has it as good as we do. Many people take our blessings for granted and this was an eye-opening experience to be a part of. OMSDT takes our mission to serve to heart and want to be a light in an ever darker world. Thank you Interfaith Community Shelter, Consuelo’s Place for having us and giving us the opportunity to serve.
